(excerpt from "Waiting on Arleen" monologue)
And so, as Arleen and Tom were, no doubt, having the time of their lives at their rehearsal dinner, I sat down here and finished off the better part of a six pack of beer.
I sat here just watching the London Bridge all lit up, cars driving back and forth and people walking to the other side. It made me think about all those old stories my dad had told me about Robert P. McCulloch. About how that crazy old man just took a wild chance and shipped a bridge halfway around the world and putthis town on the map.
When I was a kid, no matter what I had done wrong or what point he was trying to make, all our little talks either started or ended with a story about McCulloch. To be honest, I don’t think any of those stories ever really hit home until last night.
I actually walked down to the bridge and I leaned up against that cold, hard stone and asked myself out loud what McCulloch would do if he were me.
A few minutes there at the bridge and I knew exactly what I needed to do.
