The Three of Us

(Steve Denyes)
(excerpt from "Waiting on Arleen" monologue)
As you can probably imagine, Will fired me on the spot. He said he couldn’t have his employees making customers cry. I tried to explain but he wouldn’t listen. He said that if I couldn’t keep my personal business from ruining his business then he couldn’t have me at the Bean Counter. With great fanfare he walked over to the cash register and pulled out my last week’s wages and sent me on my way.

Under different circumstances, I would have given him a good piece of my mind. Compared to the fiasco that had just gone down with Arleen the whole losing my job thing didn’t even faze me. . . at first.

It wasn’t ‘til later when I got home and I was moping around the house trying to get my head straight—trying to figure out what to do when it all hit home. Eventually, I decided what I really needed was a little fresh air and perhaps just a little something to drink.
